I was starting to feel fatigued with this book about halfway through. I think it was a combination of the detailed descriptions (I’m mixed on this—I enjoyed visualizing and immersing myself in the glitzy stuff but I also wanted the story to get on with it) and some of the very shallow characters. For example: Eddie. I don’t really understand the point of him being there other than to add an extra coating of crazy rich (which, again, while entertaining I just wanted the story to moooove). Once we got to the wedding everything started rolling and I couldn’t put the book down. Nick finally getting a clue and standing up for Rachel was so satisfying. I absolutely loved the last handful of pages where we learn about Kerry’s past. At first I wasn’t sure if I would continue on to the next book in the trilogy but now I’m interested to read more about what happens next, especially with Astrid.

It seemed like there was very little plot and even less point to everything. I know there are a lot of people who will find these characters charming and quirky, but I guess given the political climate right now, I have very little patience for hearing about the problems and bloated excesses of very rich people, especially those who are as vile as some of the people in this book. It was fun learning about Singapore culture, but otherwise, tbh, I'd much rather just watch the movie which at least attempts to make these characters have an arc, be likeable, and tell a story.
