based on the book club discussion, everyone else seemed to really enjoy reading this book. they liked the twists & turns & the big reveal. this book had them on the edge of their seats & they flew through it. they felt the creepy atmosphere of the town & they didn’t trust anyone. everyone in our group had high praise for this book & said they’d recommend it as a thriller read.

I personally screwed myself over with this book. I went into it blind & didn’t see any trigger warnings, which was this books ultimate downfall for me. if this weren’t a book club book, I would have dnfed it once running into my first trigger. hindsight, I shoulda dnfed it regardless. we hadn’t read a book club book with triggers like this so I really didn’t know what to do. this book made me physically ill & drained me mentally. minus my triggers, I could see why they all enjoyed this book. but my triggers are just not something I can push aside.

please remember to take care of yourself & to look out for yourself when reading. no book is so great that you need to push yourself through it if it’s going to harm you in any way. trigger warnings are SO important but I’ve found some authors tend not to put them up front in their books. please do your research if you know you have triggers.

Honestly, the book wasn't that good and should not be considered a thriller. It was a quick read for me personally but the writing wasn't good and jumped around all the time. I did like the different POVs but wish there was more development of characters.

This book is beautifully written. I felt like the author took so much time to string together the perfect words to express this story. It started to lose my attention a bit in the middle but I’m glad I went back to it. Twists and turns kept me going. The ending seemed a little rushed compared to the pace of the rest of the book.

good read

I was invested from the start!
I had a feeling I knew what was happening and I was right but I still needed to read to figure it out!
Great book! Would definitely recommend!
dark slow-paced

Weird relationship with the daughter and dad. You can figure out what’s going on early in the book but nothing gets done until the last 50 pages or so.
