Re-read conclusion: I still love it!

Another metatextual sci fi breeze block sized novel from Dan Simmons, this one mainly riffing on the illiad, but with Shakespeare, Proust, and HG Wells. Not as bleak as the Hyperion/Endymion series - I'm looking forward to the concluding part.

The jazz fusion of sci-fi! A true hybrid of a book. It won't be to everybody's taste, but one I really enjoyed. Onward to Olympos, to discover the ending of this epic tale.

Inter-textuality, references, scifi, mythology, science, horror, pastiche from each of the genres/books that are being drawn from, and several different world-ending events are all woven together magnificently.
