My 5 star review: http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-1361-Seattle-Books-Examiner~y2010m2d21-Seattle-authors-novel-is-essential-for-foodies-and-readers

Soft story focused on food, family, and love. Adored how this one plays out and how it feels like a good hug.

3.5 - loved the food aspects, despite it all being connected it felt a little disjointed… was hoping to delve more into Lillian after the beginning, but maybe there is a follow up to discover.

Knowing that this book has been chosen for our book club next year, I grabbed the audio book for my solo drive home from Sydney. This book was recommended for our book club by a few readers and I can see why. It is an engaging story about the power of good food and follows the students and teacher of a cooking class. The language is flowery, many think it is beautiful but I'll admit that I found it too much by the end. Still, it was a satisfying, sweet book.

A nice story, but too contrived. Like Water For Chocolate and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake resonated deeper with me.

This felt like a really good COVID-19 read; light but not silly.

Exquisite. This book was a lovely read, both for a language lover and food lover. The use of language in the introduction made me leery that this would turn into a piece of modern "LITERATURE" where the author takes herself too seriously and follows every trope of real literature thereby degrading it. To my delight however this was simply a beautifully written book where every word and character was chosen with care and rendered on the page perfectly. Claire's story caught me early on as the mother of a very clingy toddler who forced herself to do things outside the house in a non-mommy role in order to refind and redefine who I am when I'm not attached to a child. All the other characters drew me in as well. I enjoyed every page.

This is a delightfully delicious read where the characters not only learn how to cook some incredible dishes, but they learn how to find themselves once again.
You’ll savor every page and wish you could go to this wonderful school.
