This book was a bit darker than I was expecting for a Middle Grade read, but it wasn't bad. It didn't hold my attention as much as I would have liked, and it took me well over a week to get through this, but overall, it was a decent story. I don't think I'll be continuing on with the series, though. I just didn't connect with any of the characters and don't care to see the outcome.

One of the best children's books I've read in a long time, possibly ever!!
Moll took me with her on her adventures, I felt her pain, excitement, anger, fear, love, belief. From the first page I was hooked, I stepped into the story and got lost in it's magic. Every moment is spellbinding. And the last few chapters left me breathless!
I can't wait to read it to my children and to give a copy to our school library.
This is a fast paced adventure that will leave you desperate for the sequel! I can't wait to meet up with Moll and Gryff again and see where their story takes us next!
Brilliant characters, beautifully written, magic, adventure, suspense and soul. My inner twelve year old wants to BE Moll.
A must read!

pretty chidlish in some parts, other parts (towards the end) you'd think this is a +16 book. The plot was pretty insipid, the characters don't let you create a mental bond with them because how how one dimensional they are... tbh nothing remarkable.

the fact that it took me over a month to finish something i could have read in 2 or 3 hours isn't the most glowing start to a review, but on the despite that I did like this. It was fun and full of charming characters and villains that were surprisingly scary and dark for a children's book. It didn't do a great job at holding my suspension of disbelief and some stuff is too contrived and silly to hold my interest but I'm not going to knock a star off for a children's book not going far enough to appeal to an adult, that would be a bit unfair. I have book 2 of this series on my shelf, and this did just enough to convince me to read it at some point. Not immediately though.

I wish I were 10 years old again. I wish I could go back in time and hand 10 year old me this book because it was around about that age I slowly began to stop reading. I still read plenty (it wasn't until high school that I almost never read for pleasure) but not nearly as much as I used to and nor was I getting much enjoyment out of it. But I would have ADORED this book - I mean, I still did at 19 so I know I'd have read it 100 times over as a child.

This book is full of fun, adventure, mystery, magic, and a wildcat who I love with all my heart (just wait for book 2, he was trying to rip my heart out of my chest and shred it with his claws at one point!) I just cannot express how wonderful this book is and I cannot fathom that there are publishers out there who don't want to publish it because the main character is a Gypsy. This book is fabulous and every child browsing the 9-12 section at my work gets told I love it and think they should read it! (which freaks some of them out - most of them are like me at that age, shy and don't want to talk to kids their own age let alone an "adult"!)

READ IT READ IT READ IT!

I have to admit that I was disappointed with this one. There was an interesting description (the Dreamsnatcher is stealing dreams and is out to kill her) and there were a lot of rave reviews here on goodreads.

But in my opinion it didn't live up to that. It felt throughout as if it was a group of kids (the adult characters included) that were in the forest behind their house playing at being Gypsies. Random stuff (ex machina style) would be thrown in in the way that children do when they are playing. All threat from the "dreamsnatch" curse was thrown away given how easy she should shake it off... every dang time.

The book also has a child like perspective on distances, even for the adult characters. It tries to make out that some of the distances are far, but when they state distances they aren't actually that far. for example; it is mentioned that it's a mile or two to get out of the forest and reach the sea... but it's SO FAR and she has NEVER seen it before... seriously?!

Strong female character for kids to follow in to dark, life-changing adventure (with an adorable wildcat friend)
