Not sure why others think this book is boring. I was hooked. Magic systems don’t need to be spoon fed and I appreciated that the magic just happened. (Magical realism? Ish?) Plot was brilliantly done.

Enjoyed the magic system and world building. Ended on a cliffhanger, that I actually didn’t predict. Loved the MMC & hand signing communication. Slow burn romance. Quick read.
The magic system was not explained very well. I also noticed a lot of explaining away why certain tasks had to be executed by certain people. It was definitely an interesting premise, and generally enjoyable. But some things were just glossed over. Also the audiobook narrator was fine, but the accents were distracting.
Amazing idea for the book, first couple of chapters where amazing and had super high hopes, but i felt like the book could've taken more time to flesh out chapters and scenes. a lot seemed to end when more detail could've been given.
I don’t usually write reviews, but I was enchanted by this book. It was such a fresh take on familiar tropes with a fresh magic system and I got sucked into the world so quickly. I was thoroughly impressed also how the plot twists, though I had my suspicions of some of them, still felt refreshing with a few added surprises.
Also, Roark is amazing and top tier MMC. Side characters were great. Lyra also was refreshing for a FMC because she didn’t fall into some of the patterns that are feeling overplayed with her magic.

Broken Souls and Bones started off a bit slow for me, and I found it difficult to connect with the characters early on. While the story had a solid plot and an intriguing magic system, something about the execution left me feeling somewhat disconnected. That said, the plot twist and the ending really picked up the pace and gave me just enough momentum to want to continue with the next book in the series. I’m hopeful that the sequel will build on that energy and dive deeper into the world and characters in a more engaging way.
