This was a well written, tight thriller. I got through it in just over a day, and was satisfied when I was finished. Cain was able to wrap up the plot at hand but left me wanting to read more about the characters. It's miles better than the Coben thriller I read last month (which was a pile of ripe garbage), and others I've recently finished. The characters were well developed, the dialogue was always necessary and never cheesy, and the plot was quick in that good, page-turning way. I'm glad that I have the second book at the ready for tonight.

This book was incredible. I have never read a crime thriller that kept me so entertained and interested throughout the entire book. I'm so excited to read the rest of the series.

I'm a sucker for these kinds of books, and even though I kind of figured out what was going on, I liked it and will be reading the next one.

Started August 30th, 2013.
Bought this together with the 2nd and 3d book in the series. Hopefully not in vain.
Not bad, but too predictable, no real twists.
Very good descriptions of torture, but somehow it all left me unimpressed.
Nice location, not the usual ones like NYC, LA, SF, Washington DC etc. : Portland.
Something is missing, I am not sure what.
But a good book to start a series, will read the next one [b:Sweetheart|2983654|Sweetheart (Gretchen Lowell, #2)|Chelsea Cain|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1311994924s/2983654.jpg|3014061] starting now.
So, only 4 Stars, as I think there are better books about serial killers.
