This book was a somewhat enjoyable read; I liked the dynamic between Elena and her brother Joaquin. But I don't really know what the point was. I didn't feel like there was any resolution or lesson learned by either of the liars in this book.

I really enjoyed this book until the end, which was a bit of a let down, it felt unresolved to me.

"The Liars" is a book about immigration and growing up. It's about mothers and their children, and how daughters and sons are often viewed (and treated) differently. I found it to be a quick read. The story unfolds across dual timelines and alternating narratives, which helps us empathise with both Elena, Carrie and Joaquin. I also enjoyed the h/t to Jesus and Mary Chain.

Nothing happened until the end of the book. The ''twist'' was interesting.

2/5 stars. Ehhh I didn’t like this. Mostly because of the multiple POV’s. The only POV that I liked was Elena’s. When it was in Elena’s POV for the first half of the book I really enjoyed it, but once it started switched to Caridad’s (the mom) and Joaquin’s, and Carrie’s (this is the mom too I think), I got SO bored. I skipped all of Caridad’s/Carrie’s but not the others somehow. I think it would’ve been better if it was only in Elena’s POV and she discovered everything about her mom and brother on her own.
