3.9 AVERAGE

I loved this book for several reasons--first because it shows the casual sadism of New York financiers in an amazing way, second because it depicts the helplessness of being a college grad who can't stand the idea of going to law/med/business school. I think in classic novel fashion it relies a bit too much on adultery to drive the plot forward. but other than that A+

I cannot believe it took me this long to pick this one off my shelf. I am so so so glad I finally did. It is a tome of a book and I loved every page. I did not feel like it dragged on or stalled but I thoroughly loved each person in the story and analyzing all the relationships. Each couple (or coupling) Lee inserted into the book, I asked myself what was the depiction of love there and how did it differ from other depictions of love. The cast of characters was truly phenomenal. I was a huge Casey and Unu stan and I was thrilled to see how Ella and Casey's friendship blossomed to what it ended up being at the conclusion of the book. (Side note: how come Virginia didn't get her own chapter(s)?) Charles Hong's crimes made me really distraught and I didn't enjoy Casey's bad decisions but also strangely understood why she needed to make those decisions. The only person I didn't really feel anything for was Joseph Han. I wish he had more development in the book. Overall, I thought this was a v complex book and v beautiful.
