The writing with the multiple perspectives was well done — I wasn’t confused as we kept switching perspectives. I found all the storylines really compelling and despite all her flaws, I wanted the best for Casey.

I really liked this. It was well-written, smart, and engrossing--a lot of interesting meditations on class, race, gender, and money, but with such strong characters that it always felt like a story and not a message.

I read “Pachinko” first and loved it. This story was good, but not great. I felt like the ending was a bit disjointed and that the story didn’t truly wrap up. I also liked some of the other characters more than the main character, but I think that was purposeful on Min Jin Lee’s part. The writing was clear and realistic. Relationships were both straightforward and confusing. The book felt more like snapshots to me than one continuous story.
