Absorbing writing as expected, good story with excellently fleshed out characters, not super pacey but interesting perspectives..enjoyed a lot
DNF.
Given that I am not a fan of family saga, I should have expected I would not enjoy this.
I really liked the first half of the book, and appreciated reading the characters' dilemma, and how they are thorn between tradition and family, and embracing the new.
Honestly, I was fine until half of the book, but then it went on and on and on, forever and I wished the stories were not drawn so much.

I felt a bit robbed at the very end, but it’s still a masterpiece. Accurately billed as a modern classic
Moderate: Addiction, Miscarriage, Sexual assault
I loved parts of it, but I didn’t enjoy the length and the sense of plot lines that continued on and on with no resolution at the end. Well developed characters, wonderful reflections on Korean immigrant identity and wealth/class in America, but a story that also somehow ended up feeling like it had no point? When I’ve spent so many hours of my life reading something, it doesn’t feel so nice to end on this note.

A very character-driven epic, FFFM explores family, love, and class in NYC as a Korean- American. I saw so much of myself in Casey as someone who was in an eerily similar spot to her in the beginning of the novel. Her stubbornness and pride and often poor decision-making were all traits that I could relate to. The omniscient narration was at times disorienting, but it helped flesh out the unlikeable and also the less important characters. I cannot emphasize enough how seen I felt being a "rebellious" child of immigrant parents who are deeply entrenched in the Korean church world and the culture that comes along with it.
This was more complex than I expected, which ultimately made it work, for me. The character work especially do not conform to stereotypes and felt extremely dynamic. The plot beats, though, are a counterweight to them, feeling like, because we knew the characters so well, they were inevitable and unsurprising. Still, I did enjoy this quite a bit.
