Min jin Lee writes like no one else. She really gets the characters

Compelling protagonist. Worthwhile (and oft-neglected) subject matter. Crams too many storylines together! Action-packed beginning, then drags out the middle and the end. I recommend Pachinko, her second novel. Read only if you have a particular interest in the author or literary fiction about Asian-Americans.

This book just didn’t do anything for me. I didn’t really like any of the characters and I didn’t care what happened to them.

I liked the book it’s going to stick with me but I don’t know if I loved the book. The main character had a really interesting arc but I don’t know if it was a love

Min Jin Lee writes so well and with so much knowledge of her characters. The characters aren’t always ‘likeable’, nor do they always made the ‘right’ choices… but that’s life, no? That’s why the book is so brilliant I think, not why it isn’t.

Fun summer read if you aren't looking for something too serious and don't mind dealing with annoying characters and unfinished sub-plots. Its a large book but a quick read if you want something for your public transit commute or to relax with.

Min Jin Lee is a terrific writer! Her characters are well developed and her storylines are wonderful. I read this one after Pachinko and am sorry it took me so long to discover her.
