I liked most of this, though Hattie exasperated me frequently. And while a more if the choices the author made were logical and true to the story, the
way the separation was handled was not great. It felt out of place with the rest of their story, and caused me to drop at least 1 star in my rating.

A bit disappointing, but many strong aspects to story.

Another stellar entry in one of my favorite series! In this Beauty and the Beast tale, Hattie finds room to breathe and understand herself outside the confines of society. Lucian discovers ways to let go of the rage and grief he has held for most of his life, and to open his heart to love. Though the romance starts off rocky and forced, it fades into something delightful and warm. It's a slow-burn for sure, but it pays off. And I really appreciate the way that Evie resolves the nature of a relationship where a woman is both property and captive to her husband; it's a fresh ending for this type of relationship that I haven't read before!

I really wanted to enjoy this the same way I joined the last two books in the series but I couldn't. Hattie as a character was for most of the book insufferable, which made the book hard to get through. Lucian was an okay with good character development and the plot was sort of fun but overall this book is a hard no for me.

This book started off very promising. I really liked the two previous books in the series and was excited to see romantic Hattie meet her match in "underwordly" Lucian. But honestly, I had a hard time finishing it.

I'll just come out and say it- Hattie is so annoying. I am sorry. I have loved the previous two heroines in this series about empowered women: Annabelle and Lucie managed to be strong women, with faults of their own of course, but very relatable and strong all in all. Hattie is just so judgemental and that really bugged me. She came off as spoiled, privileged and unaware of her privilege, snobby, ungrateful...I just could not sympathize or like or even stand her at all.

Lucian on the other hand was great. Tbh he deserves better. And don't even get me started on the ending...

I think I want to be impressed, to be dazzled by Muss Dunmore store telling. Just like the way I feel when I read Bringing Down the Duke.
Portrait of a Scotsman sadly just repeating the same formula over and over again.

The story is not bad but it is very predictable and lack of drama/ chemistry. I was expecting so much more.

Hattie is forced to marry Lucian Blackstone to avoid scandal, however, what she didn't know was that it was a trap for Lucian to get his hands on her family's social standing. Lucian's only goal is to make more capital, but Hattie dreams of love and romance so when the two end up in Scotland, they can't help but get to know each other and feeling starts developing.

I thought it was a nice story, with strong women who fought for women's independence. However, I couldn't feel myself in the story, and there were a couple of times where I thought to give up on the book because I couldn't fell the pull to continue reading it.
