Disclaimer; This is the first time I read/listened to Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Better late than never!

As much as I had been a fan of Alice, and of her adventures to Wonderland and beyond, I was surprised that the book (printed or audio) did not overly thrill or excited me the way I thought it would or could. I found myself losing focus during bits that, due to their dated and frilly language, went on and on. I am sure this was perplexing to Alice too, as she was there.

As always I found her predicament relatable, even in a different century and twice her age. Balancing the real world and the world of dreams and lovely non-sense is hard, and sometimes one prefers one of the worlds to the other. Often, more and more as they grow up.

Maybe it was this particular account of Alice, or the time of year (being close to the end of another college semester), that drained some of the excitement from going on the adventure with Alice. I would hate to allow my adult life and age prevent me from doing so again the next time I listen or read about her. Hopefully with a little rest, and a good cup of tea, this winter break will be a good chance for my to dive down the rabbit hole again! And hey, "at any rate, there's no harm in trying,".

I've had this book for god knows how long. This was the book my dad used to read to me almost every night.

Second reading - this was another pick from my older daughter for books I should read, and I decided to re-read it, since I have read it before. Honestly, it didn't stick with me very well, and while it is a fun book, it was also a little meh for me. To be fair, my daughter advised that I listen to the audio, but I just didn't really have the time or inclination for that right now, since I can read a lot faster than I can listen. Maybe the third time will be a charm and I'll remember to give the audio version a try.

The best thing about this book was the illustrations and the narration by Jim Dale
