I either really click with poetry, or I don't. This collection wasn't really for me.

what was i doing reading this at fifteen years old? it’s as beautiful as i remember but quite more hopeless, the hands and violent imagery felt like thorns on my skin

Siken is my favourite poet, and maybe for all the wrong reasons - because he's epic, because he's cyclical, because every word drips with passion and desertion and the quest to understand one's identity. This is a remarkable collection. I'd never read all of his poems together in one place before, in proper order - and I hear there's another collection out that I'll have to delve into when I have the wherewithal.
