Overall this book was.. fine. I didn’t really feel that connected to anything that happened in the book honestly, and I was a little confused at times by the reactions our characters had.
Basically the very first thing that we’re told is that Theo has ADHD and ODD, and Paige has severe anxiety and sleep disorders, but it all felt pretty stereotypical. Theo talks a lot and is jittery, and Paige bites her nails and thinks everyone is out to get her. It feels pretty baseline for how those disorders actually affect people in my opinion. It’s also kind of shoved in our face the whole time and it probably would have been alright if they were portrayed a little better and less like the stereotypes.
Also, when Theo punches Paige, it is so CLEARLY an accident. Paige spends the entire time thinking that Theo is out to get her somehow, and goes back and forth trying to decide if he’s the reason she’s going crazy. (He’s not, by the way) To me it felt very much like it was her parents talking bc they already didn’t like Theo, but she also spends a large amount of time fighting them and trying to stay away from them - it didn’t really feel like she was thinking for herself.
They also talk in length about how incredibly toxic they are together but.. it didn’t feel that way to me. They both had their own problems but they obviously feel better when they’re together because they each know how to talk the other down. They each had made mistakes, but I don’t think that inherently makes either of them *bad*. They both just need a bit of therapy to learn some better coping mechanisms, that’s all.
I wasn’t disappointed by this book, but it also isn’t the best book Ive ever read. I’ve definitely enjoyed Natalie’s other books a bit more, but that’s okay! Not everything is going to be a hit :)

I received an ebook copy of this novel to review from NetGalley, but that does not influence my opinion.
This novel was just okay for me. It was a very quick read, but the plot or characters weren't completely engaging. It reads as a young adult contemporary, but tries to delve into some supernatural aspects that I wasn’t a fan of. t gave it three stars, but officially would rate it two and a half because it was overall just meh - I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it.
I feel as though this novel could have been done much better without the supernatural aspects. There was a lot of mental health issues brought up in this novel, but I felt as though everything was over-represented in a way. Our two main characters relied very heavily on the other, but went through enough growth in the novel to be tolerable and stand on their own.
Overall, this novel let me down. I would like to give this author another chance because I see a lot of potential in her storytelling, but I’ll have to research which one appeals to me the most.

I hated the main character the whole time and I'm not used to that. She has anxiety and I get that but the whole time she acts so childish. It was not Theo's fault. That other guy was being a jerk and trying to pressure her. Theo stood up for her and she got in the way. She's to blame for the incident not Theo. She kept acting like it was some kind of planned out attack. It was an accident. Because of this, the book felt so drawn out and boring. The conclusion wasn't even that exciting.

Disappointed in this one. I’d read another of her books and was hopeful she’d become a new favorite. Sadly, this one just landed flat for me.
