4.5. This was so much fun!! Funny and unputdownable. Never a dull moment
This book was really nostalgic and amazing. I just learned sooo many things about my own culture that I didn't know before. I really can't wait to read the 2nd book from this series!
I appreciate the trend of making Indian mythology accessible to young and new readers. But there's a fine line between simplifying things and dumbing things down.
When portraying ancient tales, there's also a similar fine line between modernism and casual irreverence. As a young adult, I personally feel like embracing complex mythology is not a matter of finding things 'cool' or 'relatable' but epic and august.
Again, this is just me and who knows, such writing might actually reel in youngins. But it's not for me as a young adult. And I know with certainty I wouldn't have appreciated such flippant references to our ancient heroes even as a child.
Great thought and yay girl power, 2 stars for those reasons.

I received an this ARC from Netgalley for an honest review
This book is funny, fast-paced, and exciting. I especially appreciate the diversity of the author using Indian mythology, rather than the usual Greek and Roman stuff that most books rely on. Not that I don't love Greek and Roman but I really enjoyed learning more about Hindu mythology. I like that the author included a glossary of terms with pronunciations too.
Aru Shah and the End of Time is going to be one of those books that I go to for summer reading recommendations. I can't wait for the sequel!

DNF. I love the attempt to diversify the current literature by adding legends and folklore from other countries, but I lost interest in the story pretty quickly.
