I just finished reading this book today and OMG it was such a fantastic read. I loved Aru’s character so much. She may have lied a lot (to try to fit in of course...what kid doesn’t want to fit in), but she has a wild imagination and she’s sarcastic and loads of fun. I’ve heard many stories from my own boss at work about Hindu mythology and it’s pretty complicated stuff. I mean everyone has heard of Greek mythology which can get pretty complicated as well, but Greek mythology is NOTHING compared to Hindu mythology and I applaud Roshani for being able to write something as wonderful as this and introduce us to her beautiful crazy world. I cannot wait until Book 2 comes out next April.

This was my introduction to Chokshi’s writing and she’s become one of my favourite authors since.

I absolutely loved the journey that this book brought me on. It was quite funny which balanced the adventurous parts well. The characters felt realistic, with their strengths and weaknesses. I related so much to the main character and so desperately wished this book had been around when I was 12.  It really made me feel seen and understood in the insecurities I had growing up.

Her writing style is so beautiful and mesmerizing that I found it so easy to immerse myself into the story.

I love the inclusivity, the acknowledgement of differences, and the entire story!

I have had minimal exposure to Indian mythologies, but I'm going to have to add some to my reading list because this was a wonderful book and I'm definitely interested in the stories behind it!

Rereading Aru Shah was fun! I had forgotten enough of the details and jokes to get a totally new experience!

I loved this story! The storytelling was amazing, the characters were authentic and endearing, and so much information on Indian culture!
