I liked this book too. I skimmed it pretty quick, but really enjoyed the message it gave. It was some interesting China history as well. All the pieces discussed in the book are real, and you can go online and see pictures. Truly Amazing.

I just finished reading "A Single Shard," a Newberry Medal winner. I read it aloud to my 8th and 7th graders although, by the end, my 4th and 2nd graders were listening in as well. I LOVED this book. I thought it was beautiful and touching. All of us were drawn into the story and we eagerly anticipated our reading time each day. I am baffled that this book does not have a higher Goodreads rating. All the same, it is a book worth reading.

Really beautiful. My 6th graders thought it was just okay.

The kind of book that makes simple language and plot look easy. Beautiful storytelling bound to make kids interested in places and times other than their own.
