Oh My God! This book, I literally experienced such a range of emotion I can't put into words how it made me feel. I cried (happy tears) at the last chapter and I know this is going to be severe book hangover.
I will say that I did not enjoy Passenger as much as this one. So if you struggled through the it as I did please give this one a chance!

While you could get away with reading this book having not read the first one I do suggest starting with the prior book, Passenger. Establishing the storyline, all of the different worlds and the characters helps with this story. Although, I did enjoy this book, I did suffer from not having this prior relationship in the beginning. So, for the first third of the way I was just trying to find my way in acclimating myself to all of the characters and different time periods. Once, I found my footing, I was able to enjoy this story.
Yet, I was more drawn to Nicholas and Sophia in the beginning and for quite a while. It seemed that this is where most of the action was happening. Plus, Li Min was intriguing. Etta was good. It just seemed like it took a little longer to get the story moving. In addition, at times Etta came off as young in the way she talked and acted. The last half of the story is where it all came together. I was intrigued by what I read and do want to check out more books by this author.

slow-paced
this was simultaneously slow paced and also super rushed. here’s the thing: this world and concept is very interesting and cool, but i can poke a lot of holes in the lore and everything was tied up sooo loosely. i think this needed to be a trilogy at the very least because i felt like there wasnt enough time to properly expand and complete everything.
this wasnt bad exactly, it was just lacking. also etta still annoys me and the romance is far too melodramatic for me.

Wonderful.
Time is of the essence.
Racing against time.
Secrets, sacrifices, love, greed, obsession.
And somehow, nothing matters more than the present.
Refreshing, something original and satisfying.

3.75 ⭐ for the conclusion of this duology!
I must say that I liked Passenger slightly better, but I can't exactly tell why.
Throughout the story, the various settings including side characters I got to visited were definitely a part that I enjoyed.
I did enjoy our main side characters, too, but maybe a little bit too much, so that it annoyed me that I wasn't allowed to see into their heads more than what the conversations with Nicholas and Etta offered to me. I know that's the point of side characters but still...
Also, I liked every part that dealt with the consequences of the timeline changing for normal, non-time-travelling people and the world itself?, I guess. Imagining how our world as we know it might change, if somebody altered some event in the past is interesting.
I feel like I might have missed something regarding the pacing, or possibly I didn't connect to Etta and Nicholas as much as I wanted to. Admittedly, this could have been my own fault for it's been quite long since I've read Passenger, but that sadly doesn't change how I feel about the story.

this was a slow read
But excellent nonetheless, the detail, the research, the growth I'm green with envy.
Sophia and Li Min 💜💜💜
I adored everyone but did find a few bits confusing.
