I don't have much to say about it really. It took me forever to read because it was a letdown somewhat from the first book. I didn't hate or love it, it was just okay. I felt like it lost it's way a little bit. Maybe it's just me but I feel like the author made us care about Etta and her story and love interest and then somehow made the story about Rose, and honestly I didn't care about rose. Splitting up Etta and the guy (who's name just escapes me tonight) also took away some of the charm of the story and it was sort of all over the place. I did really like Passenger so it is a shame this one didn't live up to my expectations.
I won't lie....there were many aspects of this book that simply did not get through to me. The world-building was lacking, in my opinion, as was the whole concept of time-travel...many times I found myself thinking 'Wait, that's a thing?' whenever one of the characters spewed something about travelling and their whole pursuit for this astrolabe.
I can't say I particularly enjoyed the first book either - but it was easier for me to immerse myself in, than in 'Wayfarer' .
I mainly read this sequel because the idea of Julian as a character, and his potential involvement in the story intrigued me...However, there was literally no depth beyond the surface layer of Julien's story, which was kind of strange since you know...he was a big part of the synopsis. I feel like his character deserved a lot more exploration and involvement in the story - and would have contributed to my enjoyment of it...and yet....
Etta and Nicholas started to really bother me a little past halfway through the book. There was million of lies and theories flying around about the astolabe and what would happen if someone destroyed it....and I swear, Etta changed her mind about what to do with it at least five times. What's even worse, is that she believed all of these theories with zero factual back up...like honestly, if the whole timeline and your life is at stake, why do you allow something someone said to affect something so important?.
Nicholas bothered me less, although his righteousness made me want to throw the book across the room on multiple occasions....like, we get it, your morals won't allow you to do that or that, and you'd rather die that bear the stain of that sin upon your soul.... But if it's so, stop freaking complaining and die already, no one wants to hear your sob story for the millionth time in one book.
Also, 50% of the attempted similes/metaphors flew over my head and made no impact on me except annoyed me to the point where I started skimming for some time, when Nicholas was describing Etta's beautiful blue cerubial eyes....Ugh and Ew.
As far as I'm concerned, and as far as my impression goes...there was about 9% of action throughout the whole book...the rest was just whining, metaphors, disgusting romanticism, crying, someone 'dying', twenty new characters being introduced out of nowhere, the author attempting to set up plot twists that were visible from a mile, and pointless descriptions of the feeling of passing through a passage. *snore*
I'm not a fan of this book, as it has become apparent... There was potential here, but I don't get the point to this story, what it achieves and what the hell that ending was supposed to do to me as a reader who has invested several days into reading this book....
My conclusions...I've wasted my time, and I'm still confused.

I'll admit, I chose these books because the covers were gorgeous. I'll also admit I'm not typically a YA reader (and even when I am, it's a good mystery or realistic fiction) so why on earth I ever purchased this series from Audible... well, you got me. At any rate, I'm sure readers of this genre will love it, and I will give the author credit for creativity, she brings a lot of new things to the genre, but it just wasn't for me.

More of a 3.5 rating although I did still love this!
I definitely loved the way everything was wrapped up and how everyone got a happy ending that didn't seem too forced. The main reason my rating isn't much higher is just due to how much i found the first half to drag on. Other than that I loved it!

“I understand. There is the journey you make through the world—the one that aches and sings. We come together with others to make our way and survive its trials,” she said. “But we are, all of us, also wayfarers on a greater journey, this one without end, each of us searching for the answers to the unspoken questions of our hearts. Take comfort, as I have, in knowing that, while we must travel it alone, this journey rewards goodness, and will prove that the things which are denied to us in life will never create a cage for our souls.”
I finally got around to reading the second book! But I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first one.
At first it dragged on forever and then the ending felt rushed and a bit incomplete. I'd liked it if I could have joined Nicolas in his final voyage. Not just get a one paragraph summary of it. In fact, I feel it could have been a whole book on its own (wishing out loud)
I enjoyed my time spent with Etta and Nicholas.
