Alright, so it took me a little bit longer to finish this book in comparison of Passenger however I feel like this was a tiny bit better, they are both equally cool but this one steps a little bit higher mostly because of the ambiance and different –aesthethics,
So let’s start with that because I think that’s one of the things that stands out the most in this books. Like the Belladonnas shop, I was dead, the way that it was described was so freaking cool, I don't know it might be just me but it seemed like the most amazing thing, like super witchy like my 'hashtag#### aesthetic' and then when they go through the passage, super creepy too I love it.
Next, Imperial Russia you guys, I. love. it the second they set a foot in there I was so excited, this was definitely part of my favorite chapters not only because of the dresses and the snow and the palaces but also because of the relationship between Henry and Etta, when he starts bragging about his daughter skills to the freaking Tsar of Russia I was sobbing 😭 and then they played that duet and it was beautiful.
I have got to admit tho that in the beginning, I thought that Henry and the Thorns were actually bad and at some point they were going to betray her, ‘cause everything they said it was too good to be true, you know the typical cliché of ‘we are going to bribe you with sweet words until you trust us and then when you least expect it we will stab you in the back’ ….but I am glad that didn’t happen
Okay, this next part might be a tad bit spoiler-ish so beware peeps.
First, I absolutely loved Nicholas and Sophia traveling together, a little bit into the book already because I’ve got to admit that in the beginning, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Sophia but she starts growing into you, she is super cool.
I also liked Etta traveling with Julian he was the chill one of this whole book so it eased a little bit the mood of everything I did really liked him and his “character grow” (I don’t know if that should be the correct term because he doesn’t appear that much in the book to say he grew as a character but I hope you guys get were I am going with this)
With all of that being said I got really mad in the end when Sophia doesn’t appear and Julian isn’t even mentioned. There wasn’t an interaction between Etta and her parents in the end, not even a hug or anything except for her seeing them while she was performing. So yeah that was disappointing, I would’ve liked for Sophia to appear with Lin Min or something because their relationship barely even sailed, they kissed while they were fighting the Ancient One but it was so quick I almost missed it, I had to re-read that. I don’t know I wish the end could’ve been a little bit more elaborated.
Also I missed Etta and Nicholas traveling together but I'll let that pass mostly because I enjoyed the pairings (EttaxJulian and SophiaxNicholas) what I am truly mad is over the fact that we didn't have scenes of Nicholas in the future with Etta, like walking in the streets or going shopping, stuff like that you know? really mundane things but something.
The astrolabe thing…the second that Nic decided to slash it with a knife I kinda suspected that it could have a physical change on him, it just seemed the most logical to me, since he destroyed it etc, still cool, I guess he deserves it. Btw the Belladonna spying on him for years expecting him to destroy it, a bit trippy.
Another weird thing that in my opinion was not necessary was the epilogue which was a bit confusing for me, I mean I get that is supposed to be Etta visiting Rose in London asking her to paint and shit but what is the actual point of this??? I don’t know, not my favorite ending.... we could’ve had a full family reunion instead 🙄🙄
Anyways, good stuff Miss Bracken, fine job but have you thought about writing some shorts stories?? A compilation of these to give a little bit of closure to some of your characters and also because I absolutely love Nic and Etta and 1 and a half (even less) books with them are not close to enough for me, would you please think about it?? Thank you.

what an ending! the story was again well written but a bit slow and dragged a lot of the time. didn't like it as much as passenger but still a great read!
I liked the Passenger a lot better, it felt like this sequel was just trying to rush through everything and in the end that only made me feel tired of reading it. Also, when learning that Sophia was a lesbian I was like "yay, maybe this will turn out into an actual relationship!" but no, Li Min and Sophia's relationship is just there to make the author feel better about her books' "diversity". I hated that it was hinted that there maybe was something going on between the two girls but that it was simply there as a decoration. Disappointed.
Excellent ending to the duology. The only negative thing I can say about this is that I was craving more, but it ended wonderfully.
UPDATE:
this is one of those books I rated higher than I would for the high that I felt right after reading it. I don't even remember the plot of this story anymore :/

“The things which are denied to us in life will never create a cage for our souls.”
I WAS GOING TO RATE THIS 3 STARS because I don't know why but for some reason the story got pretty long and boring for me in the end but THAT. CONCLUSION.
The last 3 chapters made my heart ache and my eyes tear up. It hit me so much and affected me so much. It just saddens me that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would or as much as the first book since so many people are always raving about it.
but I did love the story and the characters a lot!! there is just something about the story that doesn't make it 5 story worthy for me.
DONT GET ME WRONG THOUGH because I definitely recommend this book to a lot o YA readers out there as well as music and time travel fans. The music part of this novel really did not let me down. the detail is something that I hope most music based books would learn from. The quality is simply astounding and you don't want to miss out.

This book had everything that I loved about the first one, but added to the story and expanded on the world building in a great way.
The characters were just as fantastic, and the new ones that were introduced were awesome additions to the story. Henry, the Belladonna and Lin Mi were my absolute favourites. But the development of the relationship between certain characters was really awesome to read as well. I loved the new worlds and time periods we got to see, they were just as wonderfully described as in the first book.
There were definitely some aspects in here that I wished had been a bit more fleshed out, the story with the Ancient One and the motivation for Ironwood were really things that I wanted to know more about, but I’m also okay with what information we did get.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, the writing was superb, the characters grew and adapted in believable and lovely ways and the the plot kept you interested all the way through. This was a definite 4.5 star read for me, and I’d definitely suggest reading the two books back to back if you can!

2020 Book Nerd Your Way.... #20
Did not fit an challege currently available from EBN.
This book was better than the first in my opinion. Maybe I just got used to the narrator or maybe it was because it started out raring to go. Either way I really enjoyed the second one. My only issue was that the end kind of felt rushed.

Finally done! For me, it was pretty hard to get trough this, I simply couldn't get into the story. I usually really like Alexandra Bracken's writing, but some of the scences were somewhat hard to follow (to be fair, English is not my native language). Overall I just didn't like Wayfarer as much as Passenger.
