I’m an emotional mess and my heart is pounding. The last hundred pages of this wrecked me entirely. I feel the way about Etta and Nicholas as I feel about the Doctor and Rose, which is to say, they make me a blubbering disaster and I love every moment that they’re together on the page.
The previous four hundred pages, however, dragged on SO much because I spent the whole book waiting for the thing™️ to just happen already. This could have been a lot shorter and I really don’t think that it would have affected much.

Passenger was one of my favorite books of 2016, so I eagerly anticipated the arrival of this second and final book in the series.
This book finds Etta and Nick separated, and on separate tracks for most of the book. The cast of secondary characters deepens, and I enjoyed both the fast-paced adventure and character development.
However, much of the early set-up to the next phase of the adventure felt forced, or predicated on characters' poor decisions, which is not what I had grown to expect of the main characters from the first story. I was irritated.
The second half of the book unfolded well, and the resolution was satisfying.

I didn't like this as much as the first book simply because there wasn't as much romance. But it was still incredibly well written and there were some great plot twists and at the end I was so on the edge of my seat.

Wayfarer beautifully wrapped up the story that began in Passenger. I was a little irked at first about how much time Etta and Nicholas are spent apart, because I love reading their relationship and interactions with each other... but their individual adventures were so alluring that I could set that complaint aside. Sophia and Li Min, while secondary characters, were fully rounded and I love them! I was completely satisfied at the end... and the epilogue scene brought a tear to my eye!

If you like a little less romance and little more adventure - this sequel definitely delivers that. While I didn't think the romance was overwhelming in the first book - Bracken has the main love interests separated for just about the entire second novel. However, some new characters are introduced and Bracken sneaks in some LGBTQ relationships, but does not make them a large part of the story - she really moves away from the romance for the sequel and delves more into some of the secrets that were touched on in the first book. She also moves more away from looking at different places and times - while they are present in the different character's travels, she does not really delve into any of the happenings that I loved in the first book. Instead, Bracken focuses more on the story rather than taking the time to focus on history. I did miss that in this book, but I can understand why she made that decision - there was already a lot going on in the story! Overall, I liked this sequel, it was a good continuation of the story. While it didn't maintain some of the elements I loved in the first book, it did introduce some other elements that I enjoyed.
