"good luck, hannah donnelly. the universe itself depends on you. ...no pressure."
i didn't like this one as much as i liked illuminae, but hannah and nik have quickly made their way into my favorite battle couples of all time. right next to kady and ezra and AIDAN, in fact. huh. funny how that works out.
best character is by far ella. sorry AIDAN, still love you more than anything, but i love me a sassy hacker genius. she and hannah and nik are the girlbosses of all time.
all in all, gemina is definitely an excellent follow-up to illuminae. can't wait to get my hands on obsidio!
(once again, heed the content warnings. this one's just as violent as the first, now with added drug use.)
'and waiting for her on the other side? just like he promised.
'a whole sky of different stars.'

Okay wow. That was intense. If you can I HIGHLY recommend listening with the audiobook. For me it gave this reading experience another dimension. It brought me out of reality and into this world and I loved every minute of it.
If I could describe this book in one word it would be: Intense.
Things I loved
- The Atmosphere: the combination of the visuals, and the audiobook of this story took me to another universe. That is the reason I read. To escape reality and this did that for me.
- The Characters: it took a while but I became very attached to the character. I would say my favourite was Ella. She is a super genius when it comes to computers. She's sassy. And she's also disabled from the waist down but that doesn't stop her. The villains in this were so intense it was brilliant. My God did they give me the chills.
- The Plot: Not going to lie this took me a little longer to get into than the first book but that was my fault because it's been so long since I read illuminae. When I was finally into it...damn... This plot just kept moving. It was one thing after another after another. I felt so sorry for the characters haha.
Things I didn't like
There was only one thing and that was the death of too many animals. Other than that I can't complain too much.
I will say this felt darker than the first book. Or maybe it was the same (I can't remember) but I got chills reading this.
