(This applies to all that I've read in the series) While these are good books and I enjoyed them somewhat I wasn't that thrilled that my daughter wanted to read them. I picked them up to scope them out for her, but I don't think she fits their target audience. She is a precocious 8 yr old reader and has actually read what they read for their book club. I think the books are more geared towards that 10-13 age of girls that might not really be that interested in reading, because I think it does a great job introducing new books such as Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, etc. The reason I don't think it's for someone my daughters age is that there is a lot of time spent on 'girl drama' (petty fights, not wearing the right clothes, not fitting in, etc) and on 'boy drama' ("Oh if he only liked me, etc).

Another wonderful story featuring the girls from the Mother-Daughter book club. I only gave it 4 out of 5 for this one as the book they were reading, Anne of Green Gables, was one of my favourites growing up and I would have liked to have them discuss the book a little more.

definitely excited to read the next one in the series, there was quite a bit more drama in this book vs the first which i liked because it kept it interesting
it was kinda sad reading about megan and the mdbc vs fab three because she had to choose but didnt want to (it reminded me of when i was in sixth grade even tho theyre in seventh in this book)

I really love this series. It is such a childhood throw back and I enjoy reading it every time. This is the first one I read and is how I got into the series back in the day. The fashion show at half moon farm was so iconic and has a permanent spot in my long term memory.

I admit it--I never would have added this book to my to-read list without the whole Anne of Green Gables connection.
It's a very sweet story of 4 friends on the cusp of turning 13. There's the requisite mean girl (frequently called Pye. As in Josie.), interesting parents, and friendship despite their differences.
Some of it I found a bit unbelievable--a 13 year old fashion designer? A cooking show in one family's home?
But the emotions rang true, and I might have teared up at the end.
Plus, the Anne references were very fun! They reacted to the book much like I did at that age (oh, wait, I was already obsessed by 12), and it was fun to see the moms and daughters connect over a good book.
Enjoyed this, but probably won't check out the others in the series. Unless she does Betsy-Tacy, of course.
