Modern Poetry was one of the books from the New York Times 100 Best Books of the 21st Century that I wanted to read.I found the collection to be very accessible - honest, sometimes gritty, occasionally grotesque, and frequently very clever - but not in a showy way. I appreciated the reflective nature of many of the poems, Seuss's habit of addressing herself, and the breaking of the fourth wall. I also really liked the meta nature of some of the poems, the way they are in conversation with some well-known poets who came before her and the way they reflect on the craft and purpose of poetry. Seuss has a strong and unique voice. I'm looking forward to checking out more of her work.
