3.5* because there are moments of luminous and startling lucidity in this collection and a tone that sometimes works very well. The stars I removed are due to the highly repetitive nature of the poems (“I hate love”, poems about poetry, and the most varied and enjoyable if not untroubled category, reminiscences). It’s worth noting that in my personal opinion there are an unacceptable number of poems about poetry. 75% through I began to skip them on principle.
