I started this book last month and needed to set the book down.
However, I ended up enjoying this book!  Mostly.
The parts that worked well really worked!  This is such an interesting introspection of identity, which I greatly enjoyed!  The banter and two supporting characters were my favourite parts.

However, at times I found the book dragged.  Not enough to put down the book, but enough to make me sigh multiple times.

Overall a romantasy I enjoyed!

I was excited to read this as the first OwlCrate Romantasy subscription box and ended up starting (and finishing) with the audiobook.  I was disappointed, unfortunately.  The MCs are stuck in a labyrinth with only partial memories and have to learn to work together against various challenges to defeat the maze.  However, it felt disjointed and repetitive.  I could not connect with the storyline or the characters.  I felt like the challenges lacked a common thread, the rules of the world/memory loss/labyrinth were muddled, and there was a lack of logic to when the MCs worked together and when they did not.  I can appreciate the uniqueness of the story's approach, but ultimately it did not work for me.

I'm giving this book a solid 3.75 stars out of five. I was invested in putting together the pieces of Sadare and Daesra' past. The chemistry between the characters is there but I was wanting more as the story progressed. The final third of this book captured me the most, you get a chance to find out the truth and the FMC's inner monolog is something you don't want to miss. Poglie was a cute and entertaining addition to the story.

The ending was not at all what I was expecting, it was perfect for what the MC's have gone through. The twist that led to the ending, was not one I saw coming at all.

I don't think this writing style fits with what I enjoy, it felt a bit clunky and repetitive at times. To me it was a great premise with a slight lack of execution.

I am not surprised by some of the comments for this book. May took a risk in deciding to convey the story in the way she did, especially because the narrative is so disjointed and slightly repetitive.

I mean I get why—we learn in time with the MCs (wink)—“both” of which have issues with their memory. It’s character-dense, in the sense that not much happens externally, but more internally. Plus, unreliable narrators tend not to mesh well with the average reader (imo)

I do think many readers were confused (rightfully) until the very end. I didn’t mind being confused as I do think there is pay off and it only drove me to continue reading, but I will say that I am still a bit caught up on the FMC’s backstory. I think it would have helped with the flashbacks to establish who she was (I honestly thought she was a priestess caught up on some daemon dick) towards the beginning of the book rather than the end.  I feel like we don’t know her at all (which is ironic considering what we know at the end).

For me, I just think this is one of those books that gets better once you re-read it.

I fell prey to a pretty book on this one and it is very difficult to rate. The majority of the book was rather boring. It takes place in a labyrinth so they spend the whole book trying to escape and it’s just very redundant. However, I was too invested on figuring out how it was going to end to give up on it. And the pug creature is my spirit animal. LOVE him! There was also a big twist at the end that I never would have guessed. I don’t know how I feel about the twist but it does get bonus points in my book for the shock factor and conflicting feelings I have towards it. I switched to the audio and I will say that I really liked the narration and would recommend the audio if you did choose to go on this little wacky adventure! Still undecided if I will continue the series because I can’t say that I love it but I could see myself picking it back up just to see where it goes…
