As someone that never stepped into the world of Twilight until this year I was pleasantly surprised to find myself engaged. It rose above my expectations. In many ways, this Saga is becoming a guilty pleasure of mine. There are many books that are written better. There are many books with better world building.

Yet, Twilight fills a niche spot in my heart that has love for the unabashed yearning and romanticism to 'darker' themes.

I enjoyed this book and read just before watching the film. I thought it was a little bit different at the time.

Twilight is part love story, part chaotic tragedy. Bella, a clumsy bookworm, moves to rainy Forks, Washington, and meets Edward, a very charming vampire. Between life-threatening situations and stolen moments, their romance unfolds.

While I often wondered “Where are the adults?” and “Why doesn’t Bella value her own safety?”, the moody Pacific Northwest setting was perfection, especially the iconic baseball scene (thunderstorms + vampires = genius).

My favorite characters weren’t Bella or Edward, but the rest of the Cullen family, especially Emmett, whose ride-or-die loyalty to his family made me smile every time.

Yes, the vampire lore has some questionable moments, but that’s part of the charm. It’s ridiculous and comforting all at once, a story about the kind of love many dream about.
