Re read in 2021: I’d give this 2 1/2 stars?? Or something?? Idk, ratings are arbitrary. But I was excited to give this one another chance semi-ironically and was disappointed to find it just isn’t that good. Like it’s not the worst thing ever and it doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets, but it’s aggressively “just fine” and easy to breeze through.
Mostly this book has huge pacing issues and likes to drag things out as long as possible until it decides to have a plot in the last 100 pages. Overall it was okay. I’m interested to see how the other books hold up because this is the only one I’d read before.
Also “as if you could outrun me” is legitimately so funny I love it.
My middle school review:
Okay, I'll admit it I read this book...the only good part was the end, ONLY good part, you have to bear through all the sappy romance so you can get to all the action...like 1/3 of the book is completely wasted in describing Edward

This was way better than I was expecting. I’ve obviously seen all the movies and they’re fun, but the books are even better (so far). Can’t wait to read the rest

I guess this was the best book in the series, but that's a very low bar I fear (the bar is actually in hell). I finished it the quickest because Eddy's creepy behavior was interesting however I fail to see the romance. Meyer isn't even a good writer, Bella's character is so plain all we know is that she's clumsy and reads and loves Eddy for some reason ???? may this type of "love" NEVER find me. Should've classified this book as horror because it scared me shitless how people find any aspect of this romantic.

This book is not my favorite book I ever read. It doesn't even come close. I did enjoy it though. This is the only book I read out of the Twilight series I liked and the only one I finished.
This book is about a girl in high school, Bella who moves to Forks, Washington to live with her dad while her Mom goes off to baseball games all around the US with her step dad. Bella hates living there since there is nothing to do there. I know for a fact there is nothing there since I drove through there before.
Anyways back to the plot. She meets a mysterious guy whom she finds attractive and eventually falls in love with. (Its a love story, no spoilers there.) And for whatever reason if you did not already know, SPOILER, the guy is a vampire BUT not any ordinary vampire like Dracula, Lestat, Angel, or pretty much any other vampire in the world. But I won't spoil anymore for of the story for you.
Overall I don't think the story is all that great. It is predictable. There is a little bit of action in the story BUT Bella is unconscious for it so you have to use you imagination for it.
It is the best Twilight story by far. I can only recommend this one book out of the entire series because I hated the rest but I do highly recommend this to teenage girls who wants a high school romance about vampires. If you are a guy, I CANNOT recommend this to you, instead read, Cirque Du Freak and Saga of Lartan Crepsley both by Darren Shan.
P.S. I hated the movie that was based on this book, so I would recommend skipping it all together.
