"Call of the Highland Moon” 2.5 stars was a little slow going at the beginning. Books like this make it hard for me to read and I had to force myself to keep going. Around chapter 5 things started to pick up a little.

Gideon MacInnes is the future Alpha of his clan, but he is not ready to take over the responsibility so he heads out to see the world. Gideon got on my nears a little once he found Carly. He kept hurting her even thou he thought he was doing it to protect her or save her/himself the heartache later on.
Carly Silver runs a successful bookstore called “Bodice Rippers and Baubles”. I liked the name of her store. She has always been the romantic type.

When she meets Gideon for the first time she has no idea who or what he is, but feels a connection. Mrs. Castle did well describing the connection that grows; between Carly and Gideon. The sexual tension was well done. I enjoyed the witty banter; between Gideon and Carly in the beginning then the banter went away. I also liked the other characters introduced in "Call of the Highland Moon" like Regan; Carly’s best friend, neighbor, and amazing baker along with Gideon’s brother Gabriel pub owner and play boy.

I find myself not sure how to really feel about this story. It had it’s good and bad. Hard to read then picked up in action and romance. Then back to Eh. I am not in any hurry to read on in the series.

What is they to say about a book whose main character is a Scottish Highland werewolf? The book takes you to America where Gideon MacInnes flees from his destiny to become his packs next alpha. Where he gets caught up in a family feud that could end his life and ends up stuck in a snowstorm in New York with Carly Silver, a book store owner. They chance meeting takes them on a wild ride that could end in death when Gideon’s cousin tracks him down and sends his henchmen.
This book has drama, blood, crazy wolves, and more drama. It would be for those 18 years of age and over for the mature contain.

Definitely a three star -and hot damn Gideon is awesome- but I'm still marinating on the full review. I will say, the world building was great and I'm excited to read more in this series. Will post it as soon as I can.

*This was a self purchase. All opinions are my own.*

This book was very hard to get into. I found myself putting it down repeatedly. The story line did not make me care for the characters.

I quite enjoyed this book! It's very slow paced, and not necessarily for everyone. I found the language reminded me of a historical fiction, even though the book is set in present day New York. That said, I got used to the language and the slower pace, and I couldn't put the book down!
The book also gets a lot more fantastical/magical than I was expecting. From the description, it seemed like the book would be just about warring werewolf clans/packs/whatever they're called, but there's also a whole lot more going on than meets the eye (don't worry, no spoilers!). Kendra Leigh Castle created an interesting mythology in this book, and I'm curious to find out what happen in the subsequent books in this series!

Gideon MacInnes knows what his duty is, as a werewolf he is next in line to be the Alpha of the clan. Despite his awareness, Gideon travels the world trying to come to terms with his fate, ending up in upstate New York. Always alert, Gideon is caught off guard and attacked by three rogue wolves who have been sent to kill him. Injured and in wolf form, Gideon finds himself on the doorstep of a woman who smells like his mate.

Carly Silver can't believe she carted the huge dog that was injured to her home. He will probably eat her in his sleep. but she couldn't let the him die alone in the cold. Waking up and finding she hasn't been eating is reassuring, waking up to a naked man in her bed has her flipping out, because she knows that side of the bed has been cold for far too long.

Humorous shifter tale, has a bit of everything with intrigue, romance, humor. Gideon doesn't want to be mated, correction...he does but he cannot properly mate the fragile human, Carly He believes he is doing right by her, but never underestimate the will of another. I thought this was a fun read, wanted to throttle Gideon a few times but the author more than makes up for it in finding creative ways to counter Gideon's naughty behavior.

It's an okay book, but the premise should make it awesome. Highland Romance X Shifter romance AND parallel worlds is an awesome setup, but then there's weird things that were out of date ideas even in in 2008, like big dogs being evil demons and vanilla being a female food according to our Masculinity So Fragile male lead.

It's kind of creepy how "fun and silly" the main female characters treat a man being noncensensually groped and sexually harassed by women. It makes me wonder if the author herself is a creep who does that sort of thing, or else why would it be a joke to the other characters who are established to be morally good people in this book? Even between bits of weird sexism the story is just mediocre.

The villains are so melodramatic and don't really even have any goals of their own besides being bad guys. Technically they have a goal they are working towards, but their only reason for it is to be bad, not really to get anything emotionally out of it.

The ending section all of a sudden gets really good: fast paced, good plot, great emotions and action. I'd say the first 2/3 of the book are */5 stars, while the last 1/3 is ****/5 stars. Chapter 14 is where the good stuff starts.

DNF at pg. 167. I became extremely bored and I like paranormal romance but this was very Wattpad-fanfic like.
