Laurie Notaro is one of my favorites. She consistently makes me laugh, and finds herself in ridiculous situations that seem soooo familiar (cough, not that I would know).

This time she went a little overboard on the foodies, but I get it. I am also reading the book a couple a years after my foodie rants, but I still sympathize.

Plus, with the holidays coming, it is good to know that I am not the only one likely to fuck-up the family dinner.

I have to admit after reading all her other books this one was a bit disappointing. Started out great and then just seemed to lose some of the fun.

Book #87 Read in 2018
The Potty Mouth at the Table by Laurie Notaro

This is a collection of short essays that are humorous and entertaining. Notaro covers many topics in an interesting, entertaining way. I recommend this to fans of Jen Lancaster's books. I borrowed this book from the public library.

I really, really wanted to like this book but in reality i found it hard to finish. The first couple of essays were great. Very funny and exactly what i expected. By the fifth essay, i felt like each story was rushed to completion. They just came across as rushed. Even the essays on foodies and pinterest, which had so much potential, didn't rock my boat.

I wanted to give this book a 3.5 but that wasn't an option so because I do love Laurie and usually giggle all the way through her books I gave it a 4 instead of. 3. I'm not exactly sure what it as about this book that made it not as enjoyable as others I have read by her. This book felt a little more angry then others... Some of the insults felt harder and less good natured. I will still read more of Laurie but this one is just not my favorite.

Humorous short essays. I love her self-deprecating style.

Notaro is at her best writing autobiographical insights, and this book is about as good as you'll get from her.

I used to really look forward to reading Laurie Notaro's books, but gone are the days of laughing until I wheeze and re-reading chapters because they were just that great.

I barely mustered a smirk through most of this; there is humor in snark, and then there is bitter snark. Relatable bits: the hoarding of seeing fabric and the annoyance at seeing food on a restaurant menu that is barely considered food (nettles, I'm looking at you). First chapter of annoyance at pretentious food/foodies? Hey, me too! Second chapter? Huh. I guess she's grumpy. Third? Give it a rest.

The last chapter would drag this up to a 2.5, I guess.
