I read this nearly 25 years after seeing the film, but the images came back crystal clear in page after page of Sagan’s prose. A realistic escape from the day to day routine on Earth.

The book is great but sometimes slowed by too many details on earthly places, unimportant characters, and excessive political content, as the author often overdoes the descriptions that drag the story. While the beginning grabs your attention quickly, the pace gradually fades, leaving only a small spark of interest about what comes next. But the waiting for the end is totally worth it if you have patience. It’s a great ending—it makes you think about life and our place in the world.

Great book if you have the patience!

I will credit Sagan with having a modicum of self awareness as a male author.

Obsessed with the idea of messages being left for us in the mathematics which order the universe. And that even the aliens still have mysteries they’re trying to uncover.
