Let me starty by saying I saw the movie long ago when it first came out but never read the book, until now. And I didn't actually read it as it was an audio book read by non other than Jodie Foster. With that, my feeling is that the movie was *way* better than the book. Not only that, but Ms. Foster, while a good actress, is not a very good narrator. I can't believe the book got such a high ratings - unless this was some sort of abridged version, which it gave no indication of being. This is just plain dull compared to the movie.
For the most part I enjoyed this story. Carl Sagan isn't the best writer of prose, but it was quite an engaging story. Occasionally the story strayed off, but eventually came back. It certainly gives you a lot to think about. I would definately read this book again.

Carl Sagan is a brilliant writer. His work made me cry, reflect, and laugh all the way through. I've never felt so understood. I think I just discovered a new favorite.
The film is like a streamlined directors cut of this book. The book feels a bit bloated and gassy in comparison.
Realmente recomendable.

I can't come up with words that fully describe the joy, awe, and profoundness I derived from this book. It was sublime.
