“HAS THERE EVER BEEN A MATCH MORE
DESERVING OF THE TITLE "STRONGEST
UNDER THE HEAVENS"?!
THE SUNIS SETTING AND THIS BATTLE STILL RAGES!! BUT THE END MAY BE IN SIGHT!”

Strongest Under the Heavens
The intense rounds of the Strongest Under The Heavens winds down to the final fight between Son Goku and “Jackie Chun”. The fights between all the contestants were so fantastically drawn and the characters were still their goofy selves throughout the fights, particularly Jackie Chun, Kuririn and Son Goku. The fights were all great, they did get intense and violent, and seeing the kamehameha was just awesome. A fantastic volume that added so much more to our characters.

The Red Ribbon Army
A fun volume, albeit very silly with the comedic nature of the Red Ribbon Army. In particular, the storming of Muscle Tower and the goofy boss fights Son Goku encounters here. It felt like a predictable level to level journey where there was a boss fight on each floor, but that is likely due to that trope being used so much since the original release of this volume. hope the next volume gets back to more of the adventure and less of the goofiness of easily defeated enemies.

Bulma Returns
Starting with not only a quintuple of Ninjas, but then Frankenstein (sorry, 8-Man) being their secret weapon was ridiculous, albeit pretty funny with him not believing in violence and helping Son Goku. I like that the Muscle Tower segment closed rather quickly in order to move along Son Goku’s journey, and in this volume, reuniting with Bulma and Muten-Roshi. A solid volume that I really enjoyed.

I read Vol.2 a lot faster than I did Vol. 1. You would think that's a good thing, but I didn't find it to be as good.

The major problem I had with Vol. 2 was that everything was action oriented. That's what made it such a fast read. While it was great for the anime since things weren't as drawn out as they were in DBZ, here it seemed too rush. I enjoyed the build up to the fight instead of the actual fighting.

Conversely, I've always enjoyed the Red Ribbon Army in DBZ as opposed to DB. And those were just a couple of Androids. Goku beating an army always seemed too easy as opposed to getting stronger to beat an opponent one on one.

That said, it's not a bad volume and it's still pretty good. Things picked up at the end as the side cast of characters like Bulma, Krillin, and Master Roshi make their return. I am curious to see where it goes with those people against the Red Ribbon Army.

On to the next one!

Much better than the previous volume, due to missing those perverted scenes - I was really glad that they got rid of them, the story got much more interesting. There was only one instance where the mangaka addressed the readers, but that's a huge step from the first volume, where there were a whole lot of them.
I still think this could be way more fun, the martial art moves were slightly funny and sadly childish, but I hope it will get better - I think I remember it will get better with time. Great for chilling out.
