Definitely did not want to put this down, but I'm really over unreliable narrators because they have some kind of mental illness. Le sigh.

This book was thrilling, but also why would you get in the car with a stranger. I just asffnlk. I don't understand the logic Charlie!!

Survive the Night is set in the 90's. Charlie Jordan is trying to find a way home from college. When she puts up a flyer on the ride share board, Josh is also looking for an escape for campus. Charlie doesn't know if she can trust Josh though. The holes in his story are adding up and Charlie knows there's a serial killer on the loose in the area of her school. Could Josh be the killer?

The 90s nostalgia was strong with this one and fun. Charlie was something else. I liked her mostly, but I also thought she made some suspicious (read stupid) choices. Like getting in a strangers car in the first place. Then we find out Charlie is grieving her best friend who was murdered and she suffers from "movies in her mind" where she loses track of what's real and what isn't. I'm still unsure if this was supposed the be schizophrenia or some other psychosis.

This book was certainly interesting. I definitely wanted to keep going and find out what happened, but I don't really know if I liked this book lmao. The second half was an improvement for me, mainly because Josh finally stops gaslighting Charlie--that really annoyed me. There was also several twists I didn't expect. So overall, thrilling-ish.

Rep: MC has breaks with reality--possibly schizophrenia but it's never named as such.

CWs: Blood, Car Accident (both on page and as backstory), Death of parents (backstory), Gaslighting, Grief, Gun Violence, Kidnapping, Medical content (character gives themselves stitches), Mental Illness, Murder, Physical Abuse, Terminal Illness, Torture, Violence.
