A perfectly comical romp of a book ideal for early middle grade comedians :)

This book is a “Big Deal” fun read. Great for early readers.

Inspector Fly Trap is a Venus fly trap that depends on his trusty sidekick Nina the goat to help him get to mysteries to solve... because he can’t get there on his own, being a potted plant and all.

Easy to read, silly situations, and just all around cute.

A Venus flytrap (yes, a plant) that solves mysteries with the help of his assistant, a goat.

Inspector Flytrap overcomes the obstacles of being a plant by riding from place to place on a skateboard pushed by his goat assistant detective.

And, to clarify, he only solves big deal mysteries. Don't bother him with small deals like lost pickle paperweights, please.

Flytrap earned my respect. Awesome detective. Probably the best plant detective I've ever read about.

Angleberger never disappoints. This is a great early chapter book that boys will want to pick. That is a hard crowd to please and this book will hit the sweet spot.

Angleberger’s text is stuffed full of word play and jokes: running jokes, plant jokes, animal jokes, grody snot jokes, pirate jokes, and grand groan worth puns in this delightfully silly tale of a plant detective and his assistant goat, Nina, an overachieving omnivorous gourmand. The text is enlivened by Bell witty illustrations. In her portraits of the protagonist detective, a Venus flytrap, she’s given him a pair of googly eyes, this with his large trap mouth makes him resemble a green vegetable version of Cookie Monster, however, although he snacks on a few flies in this volume, he is no match for his all consuming assistant. So, yes, there are also lots of goats-will-eat-anything-and-everything jokes. And all this nuttiness concludes with a frantic chase scene and a satisfactory romantic dénouement.

A note for readers of the Kindle edition:
Bell’s witty drawings are best seen in the landscape format. The exceptions to this are her one page comics which are best viewed in an enlarged portrait format. This means an occasional device reorienting as well as page flipping for the full enjoyment of this gem of comic wackiness.

These books were hilarious! They were perfect for reading out loud, with lots of opportunities to "do the voices." I loved that each one built on the next, and my son and I had fun predicting what was going on with the sloth or the pickles from one book to the next. Nina the Goat was a favorite for sure! There were points where I was laughing so hard I couldn't do the voices for lack of breath. Humor can be very subjective (I had someone else tell me the book left them cold) but for us it was perfect.
