"People by nature attempt to exercise power over what is around them. We build walls to shelter us from the wind, roofs to stop the rain. We tame the elements, bend nature to our wills. It makes us feel as if we're in control.
"Except in doing so, we merely replace one influence with another. Instead of wind affecting us, it is a wall."

This was a brilliant story about the power of art and the human capacity for creation and redemption. I was actually very surprised by the nuance that Sanderson employed when he approached topics like art, government, and where those two intersect. Truly wonderful.

My god this book is magnificent. Perfectly paced, perfectly crafted. I knew nothing about the story when I started it, and literally could not stop reading until I finished it. Not even to get a glass of water.
