This book delighted me. It’s deceptively simple and charming, built on a background of Black Death. The use of traditional beliefs around gems and stones is a great hook. If only there were dragons and time travel, it would have been perfect.
One of the better witch books I’ve read. Very entertaining and well written. I listened to the audible so I missed a lot but I want to go back and actually read it. Clever.

I really liked Ginevra and I think Rasche did a great job making 14th century Florence compelling and detailed. But the book lost me on the inconsistent pacing of the plot. Some parts were great but they were separated by slogs.

This book had a fascinating premise that captured my attention, but fell so flat. There was no plot line for nearly 2/3 of the book and then it was rushed. I enjoyed the first few foundation chapters but lost interest quickly. With that said, the author clearly did her research into 14th century Italy and it shows as the book to me read more as a scholarly text that a fun fiction book. I was bored. Heed my warning.
