Be weary of the net galley reviews, which embellishes the story quite a bit. This was an enjoyable cozy read. I wouldn’t consider it a fantasy but more magical realism. There are very little fantasy elements. I enjoyed the concept but thought the world building fell a short for a story set in medieval Florence. I highly recommend Lyn Bardugo’s The Familiar if you want to continue to read books set in a fantasy medieval world that grapples with Catholicism but set in Spain (with great prose).
