This book was fantastic a perfect blend of history and fantasy, witty and emotional without taking itself too seriously - which is surprising given the raging plague

We have a strong heroine that stands strong while everything is crumbling around her - hunting for stolen holy relics, trying to restore her name and hopefully get legitimized as a healer. Associating with uncanny allies an abandonned wife - an inquisitor she must solve the missing holy relics mystery.

Travel the thin frontier between fantasy and reality - and the frontier between healer and witchcraft - discover the properties of gemstones. The properties you hear about in ushed tones in jewelry shops - rose quartz to find love - amethyst to strengthen health and fight diseases are here perfectly mastered by Ginevra.

While it's not my usual take on witcraft this book is a very good historical fantasy and I'll note that epilogue. It was pure perfection ! I loved reading Belle Greene's story a couple of months ago - and the sneak peak we do have here is so relevant - these women are so connected both traveling the world and politics while hiding their secrets - (Belle Greene - written by Alexandra Lapierre)

I enjoyed, but didn't love this book. The plot didn't grab me, but that is more due to my taste. I picked it up because I was intrigued by a more unusual magic system. My main critique is that I would have liked more distinct characters. I don't think I could point out many unique traits for the main characters and I think something like that would have made me more invested in the story. I liked the idea of seeing this female friendship and her relationship with the inquisitor develop, but the story was set over the course of about 3-4 days (which I'm not really sure why the timeline was so condensed), which made it hard to buy into. I would like to have spent more time with the secondary characters as a way to flesh out the world and relationships a bit more. Still worth a read if the description sounds interesting to you.

The intertwining of historical fiction and fantasy, and how strong religion plays a role in both, was fascinating. I wish I would’ve looked up a map for this, because it would have made it more interesting for me.
