An interesting story about religion, choices, and dwelling in the past. There is some aspects of mystery and procedural drama that help propel the narrative. The MC, Sister Johanna, is tasked with revisiting an investigation from 20 years earlier in her career.

The story is told in long stretches of memories from prior to her calling and the period of the investigation entwined with present happenings. While confusing at times, these trips down memory lane give Sister Johanna  depth and complexity that make her character and struggles realistic.
