An absolute must-read. This is a thorough and riveting survey of a world built on the "default-male bias," the internalized idea that humankind is represented by an adult man, and women are an afterthought or a second iteration.
Urban planning, pharmaceuticals, education, disaster relief, architecture, TV writers rooms, legislature (obviously), tech design, career mobility - every sector of adult life is touched by the phenomenon that women must be involved in research and decision-making, and when we fail to collect and sex-disaggregate data, women pay the price with anything from their income and time to their bodies and their lives.

Should be a 5 star, many incredible points and helpful statistics - however this writer completely erases the most invisible of women.  It got super TERFy at the end :(

If I could pick 1 book to make mandatory reading for all people (especially people with any form of power) it would be this one. Perfection please everyone read it!

Powerful. Reminds us that despite how far we have come in the last 50 years, there’s still so much farther to go on the road to equality. The overturn of Roe hadn’t even happened yet when this was published. I would love to hear the authors take on the control being exercised over women’s body’s now. “Gender neutral does not mean gender equal.”

Very informative and an easy read despite being so statistic-heavy. Interspersed with a good amount of humour to lighten the depressing nature of the topic. I think in some places it lost me because the "fixing the data gap" solution rang a bit hollow when you comprehend the vastness of the problem. And as other reviews point out, there was a lack of discussion of trans identities...

PS -- interesting to read this in the run up to the 2024 American election, as Kamala Harris makes a quick appearance in the book!
