The story of eight days in a gay conversion center ad what led to that choice and the social & family choices that caused it and broke away.

The time swaps are what caused me to down grade.

There are a lot of things in this book that made me incredibly sad. My heart breaks for all those people who had to go through the abuse that is called "conversion therapy", who had to deal with so much shame and anxiety just because they were in love with someone. Religion talks so much about love and still we often end up with very twisted interpretations, where people are condemned, attacked, traumatized. The world is slowly doing better when it comes to LGBT rights, but there still is so much left to improve. If your religion tells you that it is OK to hate somebody because they don't adhere to the same beliefs as you do, you're doing it wrong.

Only reason this got 4 instead of 5 stars is because I think it was a very slow book, throughout the beginning all the way to the middle I was getting bored with it and not into it, but I couldn’t put it down once I got into it. Ending was great, very deep emotional book I can’t wait for the movie

This story is obviously important, but looking objectively at the book I thought that for my reading preference there was something off about the writing style. There were also way more flashbacks to before than I thought so the book almost ended up being about something else than what I thought it would be about.

Hopefully the movie is better. It took many attempts in sitting down to read this. I would be lying if I said I read every word; I skimmed over some. The writing is not good and the story is overall disappointing.

Harrowing and gorgeously written. Conley has given us a gift in opening up his deepest wounds. An absolute must-read.
