Published in 1948, Sábato's most known work is a unique and intense story about obsession, paranoia and desperate loneliness, narrated by a very unstable individual. The narrator’s flaws and impulses are presented in an extremely logical style; excessively detailed and terse prose. It's a very detailed exposition of his madness; a very controlled style of writing to represent the uncontrollable emotions that the narrator regards as rational.

Brilliant novel; breathtaking prose and excellent character study. Also surprisingly funny—unintentionally funny, maybe. I loved it. 

It's a very brief novel; a quick and enjoyable read. 

The meaning behind the title absolutely floored me.
