This was a very cute book. I really enjoyed it. Simon and Emily were adorable! And even though there was a third act breakup it felt necessary for the growth of the characters. It did feel rushed when they finally liked each other the anger just went away and it felt a little strange.

I had a strange relationship with this book. I felt like I wanted to like it a lot more. Ren Faire (haven't been, but those things sound great)? Awesome. English teacher with a pirate person for said faire? Heck yeah, sign me up. Nerdy book talk banter? I will eat that up. And this book had all that stuff in there, and I did enjoy it.
It just never really felt like it delivered like it could have? I don't know. I'm sure the author has a real love for this stuff. She couldn't write a whole series including the Ren Faire subject without it. The passion just never felt... there? I don't know.
The Ren Faire scenes were fun but felt like they could have had more to them. Simon and Emily were fine, but their relationship kept jumping between extreme hate and extreme attraction without much rhyme or reason. Things would feel inorganic or just odd overall.
It was fine. 2.5 rounded up.

Emily moves in with her sister and niece to help out as her sister recovers from a bad car accident. She finds herself volunteering as a cast member for a renaissance fair and developing feeling for an unexpected fellow cast member.
This was a sweet contemporary romance. I enjoyed the setting of the renaissance fair with the little bits of behind the scene details. The relationship between Simon and Emily seemed realistic and genuine and the whole plot of the book flowed very nicely from start to finish. I look forward to reading the companion book. 4*

Who doesn't love costumes and playing pretend at a Renaissance Faire? I know I do!
So of course I would love this story of a Renaissance Faire held in a small community, where it’s a group effort to put on the Faire. Simon is running the show, and Emily is new to town while she helps her sister recuperate from an accident. When she takes a part in the Faire to help her teenaged niece, she and Simon immediately clash. As the summer passes, they discover different sides of each other. I thought they were very well-drawn as characters, although the final conflict was a little bit of a stretch. But I love a story with supportive sisters, a grumpy pirate, and fun supporting characters. Huzzah!

If anyone knows me at all, they know I’m a sucker for a good hate to love romance. This book delivered. That mixed with the awesome fair setting, I was hooked. The only thing preventing this from being a 5 star read for me is that I felt it drag a little near the middle, so the pacing was off to me.
Still a solid read. I recommend checking it out.
