Saying this is a series is miss leading. Other then the overall theme of the book, it is unrelated to the Giver.
That aside, it kept me mildly entertained. There was not enough to keep me engaged. Very slow paced. Hardly anything building up to a Climax. And almost no Climax. Just very one pace.

Well, I must say this was pretty good.
We get to experience another enclave in this mysterious world, created in the first book of the series; [b:The Giver|3636|The Giver (The Giver, #1)|Lois Lowry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342493368s/3636.jpg|2543234]. Another settlement of higher council stiffs, lording over those less fortunate. When special gifts are displayed, those gifted are chosen (stolen) to serve; and everything and everyone around them is expendable.
A few twists in the story, but the ending was not satisfactory. Why choose that route?? Why not peace?? Why?? I am not saying the ending was as heart-breaking as The Giver, but not sure if it will work. Not under the circumstances dealt.

Although I enjoyed this, it felt unfinished, while The Giver felt like a stand-alone story.
Still, good characterization and a vision of another well realized dystopia made this a compelling, enjoyable read.

Quite predictable but enjoyable all the same. And I really enjoy Lowry's morals.
Reading this as “sequel” to The Giver I kept waiting for something to happen that be an ode to it. Nothing. Looking back at it as just a book, it has an ok story. The ending was blah.
Perhaps if I hadn’t loved The Giver so much I would’ve enjoyed this book more.
