really liked this! made me want to read more murakami. he paints such a clear picture of place and relationships, almost like a fictional biopic. bit dark and a little slow, but quietly beautiful

I just adore Murakami, so much so I've named my Japanese Dogwood tree after him. His books never fail to put a smile on my face, and this book is no exception. Whilst not my favourite of his novels, I still found it uplifting, even though many things that happen in it are terribly tragic. I love how Murakami has a way of making you feel that way. I think it's because his characters seen to celebrate the unusual, no-one is 'normal' and everyone is glad about it. People are unwaveringly honest and there's a great character in this book who has absolutely no filter and that feels like such a freeing thing. 4 stars.

This is such a reflective and engaging novel that feels more autobiographical than fiction. Murikami is amazing at writing a story that makes the reader think about the mundane and there is a reason this is still read
