If I could give this less than one star, I would. Didn't make it past the first 100 pages. Even I couldn't handle the pretentiousness.
This is a fantastic book. I could read it again right now.

Franzen shared this story in Paris Review of an Italian man coming up to him after a reading & saying, “I don’t understand. You’re reading about people who are going through terrible pain, & everyone in the audience is laughing.”
To which Franzen believes he responded, “Exactly.”

took longer to read than I had planned...not for lack of interest...just lack of time...but it was worth the wait!!!
Depressing. Unlikable characters. Was glad when it was over.
I hope I never have to read 17 pages of description about Lithuania or hallucinating about poop ever again.
Terribly tense and anxiety inducing family dysfunction
this took me over three weeks to get through. it's...a lot...and everyone is awful.
