Got this as as a library loan, and I literally couldn’t read past chapter 7… this is poorly written, racist, has underage drinking, and references underage sex. The main character is kidnapped several times, catches her father cheating on her mother, is bullied constantly, and that is just the crap that happens to her (Maya). She is also an incredibly prejudiced, condescending, bitch. I have never felt so strongly about a main character before, and I have read some really poorly written books.

Skip this one.

I just want to know if the original work this was copied from as stupid and misogynistic at times or what? That's my real question.

Okay I probably would have given this five stars had it not been mostly for the epilogue. Yeah the plot stretches believability a little but on a lot of the ya contemporaries I read I just sort of expect that going in. So putting that aside my main issues with the book is that when you read the end they start referring to a character that was never actually introduced in the book as if the reader should have a freaking clue who she is. It's mentioned that this is meant to have a sequel that fills in the blanks in between the last chapter and epilogue in a note from the author after the story, but considering this is listed as having a 2011 release and there's not sequel listed I'm kind of doubting that actually got written. So the frustration about the new character that everyone's thinking of and talking about and mentioning events with that weren't actually in the book sort of really put me off an otherwise interesting and HILARIOUS story.

Honestly I don't really know about the Manga related comments because I don't read Manga, but I'd say this book was worth reading just to meet Maya's Grandma. She's the type of character I'd love to rent for entertainment at social gatherings. The best part is you don't see it coming so in my case I had one of those embarrassing spit the drink you just took all over everything moments because unexpected laughter has taken you over moments. The prose catches you off guard and has you laughing so hard you can barely catch your breath. The book is downright hilarious, I don't really know any other way to describe it. There's multiple love story, a little mystery and A LOT of teenage drama, but the true joy of this book is just how funny it is to read so if you're looking for a good laugh I'd call this one a must read.

I've never heard of Boys Over Flowers, which this book is apparently based off, but even if I hadn't heard that it's a massive ripoff, I wouldn't enjoy the book. I DNFed at around 15% when I just couldn't keep going. It feels just like a Wattpad story with all the typos, changes in tense and person, and cliche writing. I mean come on, "stormy orbs"? Lots of the story also seemed really unbelievable, like no matter how rich or famous you are in your school, that would never happen.
When I read the blurb I had hopes for this book, but they were very quickly crushed
